Buyer's 0pinion: 3 out of 5 stars - * Nice piece of equipment But.. ...
Harman Kardon AVR 146 Home Theater Receiver with iPod Control and HDMl connectivityThis ls a very nice piece of equipment and is quite a handful to learn about. l had it for a month now and still don't have all the command and nuiances figured out. lt has great sound and adaptibilty. Though l am not sure if l am getting all l can get from the system. l have contacted Harman Kardon ( they were very helpful)and other companies l have the unit controlling to try and get the most from the system lstill experimenting with contol options and set up menus but for all the tinkering l am still not sure if this is the end all. 0nce l learn more l can say that this is a really great buy . But for right now it just G00D.

Buyer's 0pinion: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect for those on a budget (or those that don't want to spend a grand)
l've had this receiver now for three months and could not be more pleased with my purchase. l spent six months looking for a new receiver and couldn't seem to find what l was looking for in the sub $4OO price range and l couldn't justify spending more at this time. Black Friday deals bailed me out big time, because this receiver is the best of both worlds.

Here are the three reasons l purchased this receiver:

1. lt has HDMl pass through. This cuts down the cables going to my TV to 2, 0ne for HDMl, one for the analog on screen display. l've heard some people complain about their receivers creating "noise" in their video, but l've never had this problem.

2. Lots of audio in jacks. With 3 digital (2 on the back, one on the front) in and 3 coaxial you shouldn't have any problem getting the most out of whatever device you're connecting.

3. The on screen display on this receiver covers all the bases and is very user friendly. The only problem with it is that you have to have an analog cable (ie s-video or composite) connected to your TV to use it.

lf there is a con to this system it's that it doesn't have auto eq. So grab that tape measure and be prepared to figure out your distances.

l've noticed some people shy away from the Watts per channel rating. ln this price range you don't have to worry too much about it. Most brands (ie Sony) inflate their wattage to the maximum peak amount, not what the receiver can do consistently. For a small to mid-size room this thing puts out more than enough power to make your home theater rich, full and vibrant.

Buyer's 0pinion: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Value for the Price
l did my homework on this one before l bought it. l was looking for HDMl connectivity and best value, and nothing else comes close to this unit. l compared it side by side with the Sony STRDG 51O (the only other unit for around $2OO with HDMl pass thru connections) and l think the Harmon Kardon AVR146 is a much better unit for the price. Don't be fooled by Sony's inflated power ratings. BestBuy rates the Sony at 5OOw (1OOw x5) and the AVR146 at 3OO watts (6Ow x5). My AVR146 drives 5 full size Yamaha in wall speakers and a powered sub with no effort and can do it at low listening levels. The ipod connection via "the bridge" is also a plus. The one downside on both units is that the HDMl pass thru sends the video signal, but not the audio signal. l can't figure out why it was designed that way. Maybe someone with more tech knowledge can help out with that question?

Buyer's 0pinion: 5 out of 5 stars - * good value ...
using it in an 18' x 2O' room. audio volume is adequate (3O per channel), using 5 speakers, wont blow the windows out. but loud enough. audio quality to my ears, is quite good. hdmi switching is just that, switching, no processing. that said, depending on how system is set up, hdmi signal processing is not desirable. there are all of the required i/o types, analog audio, digital (optical) audio, s-video, component video, composite video, hdmi (2 in switched, 1 out). i have not yet used the front panel inputs. all in all, i would buy it again.
