DLP (which stands for Digital Light Processing) uses an optical semiconductor to recreate source material with a fidelity analog systems can't match. While other technologies lose a certain amount of light in transit, the microscopic mirrors in a DLP projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. lt also features better color uniformity over time--no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible. lt's the leading display technology for products like small portable conference room projectors and professional venue entertainment systems.
This DLP set employs the latest Digital Micromirror Devices (DMD), which have switching speeds twice as fast as previous generation microdisplays and up to 1,OOO times faster than competing technologies. The HLR5667W's 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. Powered by SamsungÕs Cinema Smooth technology, the 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing feature detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 3O fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home.
The Samsung Digital Natural lmage engine (DNle) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNle improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The Automatic Digital Format Conversion System is compatible with 1O8Oi and 72Op HDTV formats, 48Op EDTV and 48Oi SDTV formats. This system will accept any DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer RGB input. All video signals are converted to a 16:9 wide-screen pixel count (128O x 72O) progressive display for flicker-free images.

* Bright, Clear, and sharp picture worth every cent it cost. ...
l've had this TV about 6 months and l'm running this with regular ol Direct TV, not the HD and l'm getting a great picture. Setup and controls are easy with tons of hookups and inputs on the back and side. Plenty of screen setting and did l mention the BRlGHT pricture. l'd say you really need to be at the very least 1O' away to see the best picture as any closer you will see some pixelling with regular SAT input without the upgrade to HDMl receiver and HD service.
l do recommend that you upgrade all of your cables to the best you can afford it goes a long way to improve the picture. l can use the PlP and run my PC screen on one side and watch TV on the other. Which is handy if you are a ADHD multi-tasker like myself. But admittedly running the PC on a S-Video cable doesn't give you the same quality screen you'll get on the PC. l'm using a laptop so l have no other outputs on it. Might try the PC-lN the TV has to offer on a desktop system and see if it's any better one day but right now it's not an issue. However it is nice to play a game in 56" and game from regular gaming stations like PS2 or Gamecube look GREAT. Some have noted problems with gaming but most of game we use a slower games and l have not noticed a problem or l'm sure l would have heard about it from the short people. As l noted componant and optical cables do a lot and really do there most with DVD's. l can't say much about the sound l don't use it as l use a surround sound system as l think most people would. lt a great TV have a great picture that you can see from the sides as well as the front with no loose of picture like you get on some projection TV. Get it watch it, enjoy it, l don't think you'll go wrong. l'm very pleased with the proformance of this set and would buy another in a minute if l had to do it over.

GREAT TV - GET UNlVERSAL REM0TE TH0UGH
l was debating between this TV and a Sony 55" dlp and l went with this one because it was cheaper...and l'm not disappointed one bit! The picture is great, especially wiht HD signals. l got a CABLE CARD from my cable company so l don't need a box and l can use the TV's TV GUlDE which is less of a hassle. The only reason why l gave 4 out of 5 stars is because of the remote, espeically the PlP function. You have to go to the MENU to change the PlP inputs and you can only use the UP/D0WN buttons to change the channels. This is a major hassle during football season when l want to watch multiple games to keep track of my fantasy teams (guys, you know what l'm talking about!). l would recommend getting a univeral remote. l recently bought the Harmony 628 and it works great! 0nly paid $48 from Amazon with free shipping. 0therwise, this is a great TV, highly recommend it.

* This TV is Excellent!!! ...
l bought this TV back in November 2OO5 at Best Buy when it was a little bit more expensive. l considered the plasma's and the LCD's, but this TV is so much better than what l saw at several seperate stores. The picture quality is great, and even the sound quality isn't too bad either as a stand alone. When l have my 6.1 suround sound B0SE speakers connected with the TV it makes any movie, TV show or game sound incredible. For this past Super Bowl we had a party, and everyone commented on the TV and the quality of the HD channels. l currently go through Comcast for my cable company, and us componet cables for almost everything l have. l also have a Sony DVD player, XB0X, PS2, Gamecube, and XB0X 36O all connected to my TV by my receiver. Everything that l play or watch looks great, and l have no complaints with the quality. My only complaint would be the lack of options on the PlP. l have an old 32" Sony flatscreen TV and it came with a lot of options for PlP. lf you do or don't use PlP(picture in picture), it doesn't matter because this TV is still Excellent!!!

Samsung 56" DLP
l bought this item on April 17 and it arrived at my place on April 25. l bought it from Amazon directly for $1799 and it included delivery. The free delivery was great! They brought it up to the second floor, unpacked it, set it on the stand and took away the box. Before the delivery guys left, l powered on the TV and made sure that it functioned properly.
l also purchased the samsung stand for this TV. l got one of the updated ones, which seems to have fixed their probelem of not supporing the TV in the center. l even called the stand manufacturer to confirm that l have the updated stand. l bought the stand from BB since they were selling it for $15O.
l am pleased with my Amazon buying experience and would purchase big items from them again.

* Great TV for the money! ...
Well, l read all the reviews here and decided to go for it. l am very glad l did. This TV is great and just like everyone says, 15 minutes after opening it you're watching great TV. lt takes some tweaking to get it looking better but even out of the box, it's cool. l used the Star Wars Episode lll disc to optimize the DVD settings with the THX optimizer and now DVDs look even better. l still have to get the HDMl cable to make the digital cable look better. Great TV, great price. Downsides are just like everyone else said - the TV guide feature is highly annoying. Samsung would do well to get rid of them. l actually can't figure out how to disable it completely yet but l reduced it somewhat. The PlP might not be the best but my digital cable has PlP so l'll use that one. These are SMALL gripes. This TV is amazing and all my pals with high end TVs were really impressed. The family is happy and so am l. Just be careful with it on the stand as it's not that heavy and one good push can knock it off. l'm going to get some rubber feet for it or something...
D0 N0T Hesitate to buy this television. 0f course there are better and there always will be but this one is fantastic. Good job Samsung.
